Seminar on developments in jazz and radio

The first Vortex Jazz Research seminar will take place on 21st January at

The Vortex.

The subject will be on jazz on radio, especially focussing on

the world beyond jazz on  BBC Radio 3, such as Internet and digital.

The seminar will begin at 2.30 p.m. and will run until about 5 p.m. Lunch

will be available in the cafe Downstairs for £5 from 1. p.m. and there will

a chance to network before and after.

Taking the lead from Germany's Radio
Jazz Research, we are planning on this informal seminar becoming a regular
event as a place for jazz professionals to meet, learn and discuss

informally.

We are delighted that the participants will include:

Bernd Hoffmann, head of jazz at WDR, the largest public radio station in

Germany and responsible for over 30 hours of jazz broadcasting a month

on average.

Karen Pearson, Folded Wing. Producer of the Jamie Cullum show on BBC Radio

2, and of programmes on NME Radio and of the British Council Selector

programme.

Jez Nelson, CEO, Somethin' Else. Presenter, Jazz on 3

Femi Adeyemi, dj and founder of NTS Radio, an internet station about to

start broadcasting next door to the Vortex.

We want a good cross-section of others involved with jazz - as promoters,

agents, labels, journalists etc And of course jazz lovers!

If you wish to come, contact me at oliver@vortexjazz.co.uk and please let us

know if you want lunch.
